In the Beginning...

On May 21, 1931, a group of men met with the representatives of the Northern Illinois District of the Missouri Synod at a school-house on Broadway and 26th St. for the purpose of organizing a Lutheran congregation in the eastern part of the city of Rockford, Illinois. The men chose the name "Redeemer" and rented a hall on 3rd hold sevices that were conducted for the first
time on Pentecost Sunday, May 24, 1931, where 95 people attended.

A building fund was established in 1933, but due to the economic conditions of the time, the land could not be purchased until September 1936 with help from the Northern Illinois District. A ground-breaking ceremony was
held on Sunday, March 7, 1938, and the corner-stone was laid on May 22, 1938, seven years and one day after the organization was first founded.

The building was used for
worship until the church
added on the current sanctuary in 1951. The original building was then used for overflow seating. Eventually a drop-ceiling and walls were added dividing the space for storage and office space.
No longer an area of worship.

Until Now...
75 years later...
